Spilianakis Lab

The laboratory of "Gene Regulation in the Immune system" has been founded in December 2007 when Dr Spilianakis was elected a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (IMBB) of the Foundation for Research &Technology (FORTH) after a postdoc in the laboratory of Prof. Richard Flavell at the Section of Immunobiology at Yale University. On September 2009 Dr Spilianakis was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Biology of the University of Crete and he got tenured in March 2013. He is still an Affiliated Researcher at the IMBB-FORTH where the lab is located.

Our laboratory is housed at the IMBB-FORTH and is part of a group of research teams with a focus on "Development and Gene Expression".  Our undergraduate students are recruited from the Department of Biology of the University of Crete and the graduate students are recruited from two graduate programs:"Molecular Biology Biomedicine" and "Molecular Basis of Human Disease".

"Research in our laboratory focuses on the effect of the three-dimensional structure of chromatin on gene expression patterns in the innate and adaptive immune system"
